Maturity: Match variety maturity class (early to mid) to your expected growing season length. Consider early types for later sowing.
Herbicide tolerance: Know your weed spectrum and determine if you require a TTOP® (Triazine tolerant open pollinated) variety or whether the economics support other choices.
Blackleg resistance: Identify the varieties that fit the above criteria, and then choose the variety with the highest possible blackleg resistance rating.
