NEW CANOLA VARIETY RELEASE
CB Argyle – The Golden Canola

This coming season 2008-09, Canola Breeders will be releasing the new variety CB Argyle, which will perform well in the medium to high rainfall areas (350 mm +). This follows on the success Canola Breeders has had in breeding for low rainfall areas, and growers will recognise the canola variety names CB Tanami and CB Boomer.

CB Argyle is a mid to late flowering, triazine tolerant open pollinated (TTOP®) variety, with high oil content and good blackleg resistance.

CB Argyle is looking very promising in the higher rainfall canola market. In 2007 the variety performed very well in National Variety Trials (NVT). CB Argyle is high yielding with leading performances in WA, VIC and NSW in the 2007 mid TT NVT trials.

In a new yield analysis, CB Argyle was top or equal top in mid-season triazine tolerant trials in Western Australia, South Australia, and Victoria. Yield of CB Argyle was 108% of Tornado TT in WA and SA, 110% in NSW and 112% in Victoria. This result is published in the Grains Research Development Corporation (GRDC) and NVT publication: “Multi-environment trial analysis for the Australian National Variety Testing system.”

Canola Breeders are very excited about the release of CB Argyle. Look out for CB Argyle in demonstration plots in your area, and in NVT results this year. CB Argyle is ready for planting in 2009, so get your orders in early.
